Authorities in Tucumán recently confiscated more than 60 kilograms of cocaine during a routine checkpoint at the province’s border with Salta. The discovery led to the arrest of a couple who were transporting the drugs in a hidden compartment of their truck.
The couple, a man driving and a woman accompanying him, were originally from Tucumán but had started their journey in the Salta town of Orán. During the stop, police noticed the truck had a false bottom, where they found 59 packages of a white substance that later tested positive for cocaine. In total, the drugs weighed 63 kilograms and were of high purity.

Joaquín Girvau, the head of the Tucumán Police, emphasized that the operation was a significant blow to local drug trafficking. He credited the success to stronger border control measures, noting that the drugs were extremely valuable due to their purity and the likelihood of being distributed in other regions.
This hidden-compartment technique is not unusual for drug traffickers moving narcotics across different areas. In a similar operation just two weeks ago, the Gendarmería Nacional intercepted another couple transporting drugs in a truck along Route 40. Officers discovered 57 packages of cocaine weighing over 30 kilograms.
