In a recent anti-narcotics operation, the Mexican Navy (Semar) successfully intercepted approximately 3,600 kilograms of suspected cocaine and detained nine individuals. The operation took place approximately 214 kilometers southeast of Acapulco, Guerrero, during routine aerial and maritime surveillance.
According to Semar, Navy personnel spotted a high-speed “Go Fast” vessel equipped with two outboard motors and carrying nine crew members. The vessel was observed transporting 102 black bundles believed to contain cocaine. Upon detection, naval forces moved in to intercept the boat, seizing the cargo, the vessel, and the crew members.
In a statement, Semar emphasized that all actions were conducted with strict adherence to human rights protocols, with the physical integrity and rights of the detainees respected. Six of the individuals apprehended were identified as foreign nationals.
Following the seizure, the vessel, along with the suspected narcotics and detained individuals, was transported aboard a Mexican Navy ship back to land. The suspects have been handed over to the relevant authorities, who will open a formal investigation.
This operation is part of Semar’s ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and ensure security and rule of law in Mexico’s territorial waters. It also aligns with Mexico’s broader national security initiative, “The First 100 Days Security Strategy,” a federal government plan to reduce high-impact crimes through enhanced security measures and intelligence operations.
Just this past weekend, the Navy dismantled an illegal surveillance network in several municipalities in Sonora. The network, allegedly set up by organized crime groups, operated as a clandestine C4 monitoring system, allowing criminals to track law enforcement movements in real-time.
