Iraq Intercepts 100 kg Captagon Shipment in Joint Anti-Narcotics Operation

The Baghdad Directorate for Anti-Narcotics in Karkh, in cooperation with Erbil’s Anti-Narcotics Directorate, intercepted a large shipment of the narcotic Captagon, weighing 100 kg. The operation, part of Iraq’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, marked a significant collaboration between anti-narcotics authorities in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region.

Hussein Yousef Al-Tamimi, Director of Public Affairs for the General Directorate of Narcotics, stated that the operation was conducted under orders from the First Investigation Court of Karkh in Baghdad. Describing it as a “security achievement,” he highlighted the success in preventing a substantial trafficking attempt.

With the aid of the Erbil Anti-Narcotics Directorate, an international smuggler was apprehended, who is suspected of using narcotics trafficking for financial gain. Following initial investigations, the case has been handed over to judicial authorities for further legal proceedings.
