Argentine customs officials seized a narcotics shipment valued at more than one million dollars at the San Ignacio de Loyola International Bridge in Clorinda, Formosa. The drugs were discovered in a truck arriving from Paraguay, destined for Uruguay.
The incident occurred midday when the truck underwent a standard entry inspection at the border. Despite the truck’s documentation indicating that the trailer was empty, a X-Ray revealed anomalies near the trailer’s coupling plate. Further inspection led to the discovery of a hidden compartment.
Customs agents, aided by drug-sniffing dog Zeus, found 91 bricks concealed behind steel and lead plates. The total weight of the cocaine was approximately 92 kilograms, with an estimated street value of USD 1,104,000. Initial tests confirmed that all bricks contained a positive result for cocaine base paste.
Following the discovery, both the truck driver and his accomplice, both Paraguayan nationals, were detained and held incommunicado. The case has been handed over to the Federal Court of Formosa, where Judge María Belén López Macé and Federal Prosecutor Luis Benítez are overseeing the investigation.
