On Monday afternoon, October 21, a significant drug operation was conducted by the Coastal Patrol team of the 9th Military Police Battalion (9th BPM) in Brazil. During a routine water patrol, officers seized 57 kilograms of cocaine near Ilha Rasa da Cotinga, located in the Bay of Paranaguá.
Discovery of Cocaine
The operation began around 3 PM when the patrol team spotted a black package partially visible above the water near several ships. Upon investigation, officers found that the package was tethered to a submerged object. The Coastal Patrol team cut the rope, marked the discovery location, and retrieved the package from the water.Upon inspection, the package was found to contain multiple smaller packets of cocaine.
Underwater Search Operation
Following this discovery, a vessel carrying divers from the Coastal Patrol was dispatched to the scene. The state military conducted underwater searches at the marked location and discovered a cable leading to a large submerged bag. The bag exhibited signs typical of international drug trafficking, including unusual attachments intended to avoid detection, such as contamination of ship hulls.
After retrieving the bag, authorities found a significant quantity of cocaine inside, also divided into smaller packages.
Legal Action Taken
In total, the operation resulted in the seizure of 57 kilograms of cocaine. All confiscated material was transported to the Federal Police Station in Paranaguá. The case is now under the jurisdiction of law enforcement authorities for further legal proceedings.
