In Colombia’s Atlántico department and across the Caribbean region, criminal organizations continue to engage in illegal drug trafficking operations despite efforts by law enforcement to crack down on these activities. On Tuesday, November 5, Colombian authorities announced the seizure of 200 kilograms of cocaine being transported in a white van.
According to Atlántico Police, the seizure took place on a road connecting the municipality of Repelón to the village of Villa Rosa. Officers stopped a white van, license plate FHB-225, for a routine inspection. During the search, police discovered a hidden compartment in the back of the vehicle containing packages of cocaine carefully concealed in black plastic wrapping.
“Upon searching the vehicle, we located a compartment in the cargo area where 252 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were stashed, wrapped in black plastic. The confiscated materials, valued at over 1.3 billion Colombian pesos, were turned over to the appropriate authorities,” stated the judicial authorities in an official press release.
Authorities report that this seizure delivers a significant blow to the finances of the criminal network involved, preventing the distribution of over 250,000 doses of the drug. A 33-year-old man was apprehended during the operation and subsequently transferred to the prosecutor’s office, where he faces charges related to drug trafficking, manufacturing, and possession of illegal substances.
